2020. Woah. It’s been different.

All the good from 2020:

#ylphotochallenge. When Covid struck, I created a photo challenge for the doggy community to focus on the happy and our doggy best friends and maybe even pick up a new photo trick to use on your phone. The response blew my mind! Search #ylphotochallenge. It was SO good!!! This post here explains it well if you’d like to read.

Max! If you know me, you’ll know that I focussed on dog photography back in 2016 so I could get my doggy fix. My family and I finally have our very own pooch to gush and fuss over. We love him too too much & he’s incredibly spoilt!

He comes with on most photoshoots and is quite the socialite and well behaved little pup. Now that I have my own doggy, I’m keeping at photographing dogs and families in Auckland. There is just something about making these portraits that fill me with such immense joy.

2020 had me schedule and reschedule photoshoots, but had it not been for that, I won’t have had the time to make some really cool content for my followers. Save this page, or come back again later when you’re ready to go down a rabbit hole of fun phone photography tips, happy dog photos and many many behind the scenes of a dog & family photographer.

Favourite dog photographs taken near Auckland 2020:

Flower wreaths

My classic flower dog shot with wreaths and flower crowns. Every photoshoot I do, I make one / two dog flower wreath photos. The flower wreath is tailor made to your dog’s size and your favourite colour and flowers. It is one of the favourite photographs that my clients 90% of the time don’t want to live without. These are just a few of my faves.

I had quite a few return clients who wanted to have a flower wreath portrait made with a new family member to add to their flower portrait series.

Black and white dog photography

With every photoshoot, I usually make a few photos black and white. But you know what I love more than a black and white photo? A colour photograph that LOOKS black and white. Monochrome love. Absolute love when a photo is black and grey and a doggy’s little pink tongue is the only colour.

Family photographs

Cause 2020 has taught us family is all we have. And it really is the only thing and people closest to us we need to treasure. Our bubbles with our dogs.

Highlights…

Birds! Ethically Kate: Our love for our pets are SO special. It’s such an intimate real photo of ourselves with them.

Charlie the cockatoo: Charlie blew my mind. She’s toilet trained. Rachel will ask her if she wants to go ‘poo-poo’ and Rachel will hold her over the bin. Charlie will either go or shake her head. It’s such an amazing thing to see.

2021 will find me make time for my own creative work to keep developing my style. I have so many ideas I want to share with you, but need to take time to develop them first. I’m so excited to follow my creativity and see where it takes me. Here’s to trying more new things and expanding our minds and growing.

I wish you a happy 2021. Success in everything we take on, good health, happy new adventures and love. It is going to be great!
