I make photographs of families, families or people with their dogs, and a lot of dog portraits of your fur baby on his own. I want my art to make you happy every day, so I want you to have beautiful prints and display it proudly.

5 steps to get your photographs on the wall. This is part 1 of 2 blogs featuring Sophi's family and dog photo shoot in West Harbour Auckland.

Sophi and Andy inspired me to write this blog, so it fits well to share their photographs with these tips. I know it can be daunting doing something you don’t know how, and I want to make it as easy as possible for my clients to get their beautiful new art on the wall.

This blog is written in 2 parts. Part 1 - how to get your photographs on the wall if you were photographed by Yellow Lab family photographer. My clients receive matted prints at the end of their photo session, so the post is written with that size in mind. Part 2 - coming soon, how to get your photos on the wall regardless of who you were photographed by, but you’ll need the highres digital file of your chosen photo(s).

These are some of my favourites from Sophi, Andy and Ruckus’ photoshoot in West Harbour, Auckland

Ruckus is a beautiful rough collie puppy and is just so cute!

Without further ado, to my clients……….

Now that you’ve had your amazing Yellow Lab Dog & Family Photoshoot, you’ve chosen your EPIC photographs at your photo reveal, now it’s time for the next step. Displaying your artwork.

You don’t have to display them all at once, but it’s important that some of them are out. It’ll be a shame for you to only get to enjoy your portraits when they come up in a memory reminder on your phone screen.

STEP 1 Have a walk around your home and see which photos you would like to put up where. Photographs that look similar go great together. This size portrait look good in sets of 2 or more. Consider a gallery wall, a few together or one alone leaning/ standing on a side table like a desk print.

STEP 2 find frames. Let’s go shopping! You know what area they’ll be in and what your decor looks like so what color / style frame will go and what will suit your taste. The printed photograph is 10x8 but is matted to a 11x14. So you’re looking for a standard 11x14 size frame.

Here are a few I’ve found that I like

I found some frames I liked at Freedom, Briscoes and The Warehouse.

While you’re shopping, how are you going to hang them?

STEP 3 I like to use these Command Picture hanging strips for this size of art. The beauty of it, is they are perfectly safe to use in a rental space or if you are scared of damaging the wall. Double check the instructions on the back of the pack and you’re set! You can get them from The Warehouse, Warehouse Stationery or next time you’re in Countdown. Buy enough packs so you can hang all your art at once.

STEP 4 Now that you have your own portrait art, frames and strips to display your art with, take the backing off your photo frame (use the tip of scissors or a blunt knife), insert your photograph inside the matt - how you got it from me, don’t take the photo out of the matt. Make sure it’s the right way up & replace the backing.

STEP 5 Add the command strips or other method you’re using to hang.

STEP 6 Install - take a deep breath, but just do it - if you have another set of eyes that can stand a little back and tell you if the frames are straight, that’ll help. If not, they are easy enough to take off the wall and adjust a little.

STEP 7 sit down and enjoy your new artwork in your home. This is going to make you happy each time you see it.

STEP 8 You have your phone on you, so take a photo and send it to @yellowlabpetphoto on Instagram. It makes my day to see my art in people’s homes.

If steps 1-6 give you anxiety or you prefer to use your time another way, I also offer custom framing and could come install your new artwork personally.

Part 2 coming soon:
