Look at the fourth photo. The one with Esme and Malt. Guess how much Photoshop work went into it…
Not much!
I’ve only smoothed out the creases on the blanket they’re sitting on - this photo is pretty much perfect straight out of camera. And that is why I LOVE photographing children and dogs together.
You just never know what you’re going to get. You might be after a different kind of photograph of little girl and dog together, not get it, but get something completely different and 100x greater.
My clients often repeat the saying of ‘not to work with kids and animals’, but armed with my passion for beautiful portraits and patience, the reward is just SO amazing when you get portraits like these.
Even if, when I was holding my camera, sitting on the floor, a doggy treat in one hand, and in the same hand, blowing bubbles for Esme to look at…. a tiny bit ‘crazy’ or super multi tasking, but the result is something they’ll treasure and love for the longest time. THIS makes me so happy.
These are some of my favourite photographs from this dog and family photo session in Auckland
Love, Salome

PS This lovely family visited me all the way from Hamilton for their portraits. They have an incredible dog friendly pub The Eatery and the Kegroom that I’m told is so worth the visit when you’re in Hamilton. Take your dog’s portrait there, and be sure to hashtag #dogsofthekegroom.
PPS How absolutely awesome is Malt’s name!?
